The Si21xx satellite receiver product family is the industry’s first fully-integrated single-chip satellite RF front-end solution for direct broadcast satellite (DBS).

Offering the highest performance, smallest size and easiest-to-use receiver solution for DBS, the Si21xx devices are ideal for all free-to-air (FTA) and pay-TV DBS equipment including satellite set-top boxes, PC cards for satellite TV, DBS receivers for automotive or avionic use, DVD recorders and digital TVs with integrated satellite receivers.

The satellite receiver family incorporates a tuner, demodulator and LNB controller into a single chip, resulting in a significant reduction in board space and external components. The IC supports symbol rates of 1 to 45 MBaud over a 950 to 2150 MHz range. The ICs support a full suite of features including automatic acquisition, fade recovery, blind scanning, performance monitoring and DiSEqC™ Level 2.2 compliant signaling. The Si2108/10 ICs further add short-circuit protection, overcurrent protection and a step-up dc-dc controller to implement a low-cost LNB supply solution. Si2109/10 versions include a hardware channel scan accelerator for fast “blindscan”. An I²C bus interface is used to configure and monitor all internal parameters.

Key Requirements for Multi-Tuner Automotive Radio Designs

Automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers understand that consumers expect a superior in-vehicle audio experience and are responding by designing sophisticated infotainment systems. The radio components used in today's vehicles need to be cost-effective while meeting rigorous automotive levels of performance. With the advent of multi-tuner automotive infotainment systems, car radio developers must now consider a wide range of performance requirements and new technologies in their designs.

Designing Wheel-Tuned, Digital-Display Radios with Next-Generation Radio ICs

As a growing number of portable applications such as mobile phones and portable media players integrate the FM radio function, there’s a misconception that traditional radios are no longer needed. In reality, wheel-tuned radios have remained immensely popular. This article will discuss how to design a mid-level wheel-tuned radio with an LCD to display frequencies, and it will explore the practical considerations in selecting audio ICs and display drivers, as well as how to leverage these technologies to deliver the best end-user radio tuning experience. Available in English and Simplified Chinese.
