PSE Power over Ethernet Development Kits
The Si3452 is an IEEE 802.3at™ (D4.2) compliant, quad-port power over Ethernet (PoE) controller for power sourcing equipment (PSE). The Si3452 PoE PSE solution is intended for use in endpoint (switch) or midspans designed to deliver power to PoE PDs, such as multi-radio wireless access points, VoIP phones, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) video surveillance cameras, point-of-sale terminals, and industrial automation equipment.
The PoE PSE solution is the industry's most energy-efficient, quad-port PoE PSE controller. This device supports PoE PSE systems complying with IEEE's existing 15 W per port PoE standard, as well as the recently-ratified, 30 W per port "PoE+" standard. For proprietary applications, higher power levels to 40 W per port are supported.
Each port's power supply voltage and current are measured and monitored in real-time and may be accessed via the Si3452's industry-standard I2C interface, enabling sophisticated system-level power management and easing compliance with emerging energy-efficient Ethernet standards. Accelerating time-to-market, the Si3452 is part of a complete PoE PSE chipset that includes Si840x I2C isolators, the Si3500 high-voltage DC-DC controller, comprehensive reference designs and the PSE power manager portfolio for rapid integration with popular Ethernet switch chipsets. A comprehensive 8-port midspan reference design kit (Si3452MS8-KIT) includes a complete schematic, layout files and bill-of-materials (BOM) as well as an 8-port power management reference design based on the hardware-configured Si3480 (Si3480MS8-KIT) and a 24-port power manager reference design based on the GUI-configured Si3482 (SMARTPSE24-KIT).
Efficient, intelligent and cost-effective balancing of powered device (PD) loads is a critical design consideration for multi-port PoE equipment. Complementing Silicon Labs' popular Si3452 PSE controllers, Silicon Labs' PoE power management ICs provide an easy-to-use, energy-efficient and small-footprint solution for streamlining power delivery in managed and unmanaged switches and routers, iPBXs, IP-based security systems, set-top boxes and power injectors.
Silicon Labs' Si348x power management ICs take advantage of the real-time voltage and current monitoring capabilities of the Si3452 PoE controller to apply active power management based on actual consumption, enhancing the efficient use of switch ports beyond simple classification schemes.
