Step 1: Setup a ZigBee Gateway

To start designing with your IoT reference designs you need to set up a ZigBee coordinator (gateway). Silicon Labs offers 2 reference design gateways (a USB Virtual Gateway and a Wi-Fi/Ethernet Gateway) for the purpose of evaluating the reference designs. Please follow the instructions in the User Guides below.

Option 1: ZigBee USB Virtual Gateway

Option 2: ZigBee Wi-Fi/Ethernet Gateway

Step 2: Connect the ZigBee End Device to the Gateway

Once the gateway is setup, it can connect to multiple reference designs such as the; Dimmable Light Switch, Connected Lighting, Window/Door Contact Sensor, Smart Outlet, and Occupancy Sensor.
  • Power on the device
  • Add device to the network via the web User Interface (UI)
  • See options below to trigger the network join process
  • Bind multiple devices together
connected lighting
Connected Lighting
Connect the ZigBee light to the ZigBee network:
Trigger the light to join the network by pushing the button 10 times
dimmable light switch

Dimmable Light Switch

Connect the ZigBee capacitive touch dimmer switch to the ZigBee network:
Trigger the dimmer switch to join the network by holding down the S3 button for at least 1 second
cotact door sensor

Contact Door/Window Sensor

Connect the ZigBee contact sensor to the ZigBee network:
Trigger the contact sensor to join the network by holding down the S1 button for at least 1 second
occupancy sensor
Occupancy Sensor
Connect the ZigBee occupancy sensor to the ZigBee network:
Trigger the occupancy sensor to join the network by pressing the S1 button for more than 1 second and then releasing.
smart outlet

Smart Outlet

Connect the ZigBee smart outlet to the ZigBee network:
Trigger the smart outlet to join the network by pressing and holding the front button for more than 3 seconds and then releasing.
