Which ethernet connector should I use in my CP220x design?
Answer
Below is a partial list of Ethernet connectors that are compatible with the CP220x. The list shows manufacturers of connectors with integrated magnetics as well as discrete magnetics. A connector with integrated magnetics minimizes board size, but designs requiring direct access to Ethernet pins (such as Power Over Ethernet circuits) should use discrete magnetics or a connector designed for Power Over Ethernet.
When selecting a connector, note that the transformer turns ratio on the transmit side should be 1:2:5, and the transformer turns ration on the receive side should be 1:1.
Also, always check connector availability and lead time early in design. Expect a 4 to 16 week lead time for integrated connectors, depending on the supplier.
