What is the capacitance specification for digital I/O pins on the USB bridge devices (CP2101, CP2102/9, CP2102N, CP2103, CP2104, CP2105, CP2108, CP2110, CP2112, CP2114, CP2103, and CP2614)?
Answer
Except for analog blocks that have specifically sized capacitors as a key part of their design (e.g. a voltage regulator's output capacitor), I/O pin capacitance is not a tested parameter because it is so small.
Bench characterization of various devices over time has shown that a reasonable figure for digital I/O pin capacitance is 3 - 5 pF. This applies to pins associated with UART, SPI, I2C, and I2S interfaces, GPIOs, and other digital inputs and outputs.
How can I customize CP21xx device with Simplicity Studio?
Answer
Simplicity Studio v4 integrates CP210x/CP211x (except CP2114 which need to use the legacy AN721 CP21xx Customization Utility tool to customize) customization support in Xpress Configurator. Now you could use this tool to customize the CP21xx device, like the CP2104. To do this:
Connect to the device:
After you connected the CP210x device, a set of compatible apps will appear in the Launcher window.
Create an Xpress Configurator project:
Click Xpress Configurator under [Compatible Tools].
If this is the first time Xpress Configurator runs, a new project creation dialog box will appear. Otherwise, the last-opened project will automatically open. In this case, create a new project by clicking [File]>[New]>[Xpress Configurator Project].
Hover over the information icons for more information about each configuration item.
When finished, click the [Program Device] button.
More information on Xpress Configurator for CP210x/CP211x can be found in AN721: CP210x Device Customization Guide. This application note can be found in Simplicity Studio or on www.silabs.com/interface-appnotes.
Some special feature (non standard) could also be customized by changing the FW. Silabs could help to prepare a special FW for customer if customer raise the detailed request. Please contact sales team to discuss and start this kind of request.
Note: The CP2102N and CP2615 was only supported by Xpress Configurator (integrated in Simplicity Studio) and CP210xSMT.exe and CP2615SMT.exe now, the old CP21xx Customization Utility tool was not updated to support CP2102N and CP2615 customization.
Some special feature (non standard) could also be customized by changing the FW (e.g. customize the Manufacturer String on some CP210x devices, etc), if you need to customize the Manufacturer String on CP210x you may need Silabs to customize the device for you. The Manufacturer String was available to be customized for device such as CP2615, CP2130, CP2112, CP2114 and CP2110 through the customization tool.
The installation package that include CP210xSMT.exe could be downloaded here.
The CP2114 states there is one-time Programmable ROM for the audio configuration area. This area stores up to 32 different audio configurations.
What is maximum size of audio configuration?
Does each of the 32 memory slots have fixed or variable size?
Answer
The CP2114-B02 has 31 KB of ROM available for audio configuration, and the CP2114-B01 has 5.5 KB.
The DAC Configuration tab of the Customization Utility displays the number of available (i.e. unprogrammed) configurations and the available OTP ROM space:
Each of the memory slots can be of variable size. Each slot does not have a fixed size, but all the audio configurations must fit within the available memory.
