Is Silicon Laboratories offering lead-free MCU devices?
Yes, Silicon Labs offers MCU products in lead (Pb) free packages. These lead-free devices meet the industry standard for RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) requirements. The ordering option for Pb-free is denoted by adding a suffix to the original part number to indicate the temperature range and type of package. The device datasheet lists the available package options and features for each device family.
For Silicon Laboratories MCU devices, the following suffixes are used:
GQ: -40 to +85 C, QFP packaging
GM: -40 to +85 C, MLP / QFN packaging
GP: -40 to +85 C, PDIP packaging
GS: -40 to +85 C, SOIC packaging
IM: -40 to +125 C, MLP / QFN packaging
IT: -40 to +125 C, TSSOP packaging
Please visit the Quality page on the Silicon Labs web site for more RoHS details:
Note: All non-RoHS device packages have been obsoleted. Some distributors still list these devices in their product manuals with an 'obsolete' label. The devices are still available from these distributors under their RoHS suffix version (i.e. C8051F300 is obsolete, but C8051F300-GM is still available for purchase).
