You must use the configuration file corresponding to the device you want to configure.

I think you tried configuring CP2102 with CP2102N configuration.

Stand Alone Manufacturing tool has an option to display a list of all connected devices identified by the configuration file: --list config_file_name

Did you make a clean installation of Big Sur v11.1 on your Mac or did you upgrade it from the previous version?

I doubt the "unclean Mac OS upgrade" can cause the problem with VCP driver.

You can firstly try Stand Alone Manufacturing tool in USBXpressHostSDK-Linux, which should be located in CP210x\bin

How to use the tool is mentioned in 4. Programming Options of AN721 https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/application-notes/AN721.pdf

I think you should give it a try.

Have you also tried on another Mac machine?

There are two kind of tools which can be used to configure CP210x devices:

1) For test and prototype, you can use Xpress Configurator which is available in Simplicity Studio: https://www.silabs.com/developers/simplicity-studio

2) For mass production, you can use Standalone Manufacturing Tool (SMT) which is available in USBXpressHostSDK: 

• https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/software/USBXpressHostSDK-Win.zip
• https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/software/USBXpressHostSDK-Linux.tar
• https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/software/USBXpressHostSDK-Mac.zip

This SMT tool is normally named CP210xSMT and is located USBXpressHostSDK\CP210x\Release\x64.
The instructions of how to use these tools can be found in AN721: https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/application-notes/AN721.pdf

If you want to program by yourself, you can use CP210xManufacturing.dll, which is also located in USBXpressHostSDK\CP210x\Release\x64.

It's rather strange because I can succeed running MacGPIOExampleUsingRuntime as well as MacGPIOExample.

Could you follow these steps:

1. Verify the existing VCP driver: In terminal, enter the command "kextstat | grep silabs". If it displays VCP driver info then
2. Uninstall the existing VCP driver: Using the official uninstaller
3. Install VCP driver: https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/software/Mac_OSX_VCP_Driver.zip
4. Execute MacGPIOExampleUsingRuntime or MacGPIOExample

Btw, Is this CP2102N device on your own hardware or is this a part of a third-party product?
