seem to have a lot of bugs, things only work randomly and stops working randomly.
bad, yes but no worse than some other manufacturers stuff
generally, most free software makes you remember the adage "you get what you pay for"
when I show up for a contract and find they are using manufacturer software I go buy a bottle of Prozac
I recall another such where a day with less than 10 crashes was a good day
I will fill your review page soon .But for till now,Your work is an excessive amount of good.
I have filled out the survey once. It won't let me do it a second time.
I have just wasted three days on another undocumented quirk of Simplicity Studio. I posted a question in this forum and someone moved it to the hardware forum. A hardware guy tried to help but had no idea. The problem was some sort of undocumented limitation on initializing arrays; maybe (probably) a shortcoming of the "quirky" Keil compiler but maybe the crumbly old Eclipse as well. Either way it was a Simplicity Studio problem. I had to solve it entirely on my own and it took three days.
I know it's free. I would pay a reasonable amount for some support.
I'm on OS X, which makes Simplicity Studio that much less stable...
I had to manually install the latest version of WINE, and re-configure SS to use it to get everything working. When it works, SS is pretty nifty, but there are bugs (I have an active one right now - incorrect code being generated by Configurator).
But, it's still WAY better than using the fantastically expensive IAR complier (even though Keil doesn't generate as compact code). The Configurator is great (when it works). One of the hardest parts of working with 8051s is the arcane register configuration required to get peripherals working. The Configurator helps a lot.
