The legacy eA tools were provided as features within the SS2.0 release, and are not compatible with the updated SS3.0. The legacy eA products are no longer updated and do not include support for many of the current products that SS3.0 features support, therefore they are no longer provided as optional downloads.
Simplicity Studio is based on the Eclipse framework, which utilizes a provisioning(management) framework called Equinox to manage the installable bundles. The Simplicity Studio v2 product used a distributed bundle manager, which has been consolidated in Simplicity Studio v3. The goal with consolidating the base product is to improve performance of the install process moving forward, which also prevented the SS2.0 compatibility.
The SS3.0 product will be upgradeable to all SS3.x minor and patch updates. The base product is not expected to change throughout the duration of the SS3.x product cycle. However once the underlying platform is updated, which is planned to happen in the future, this will require a new installation.
Is there any way to keep the current installation of Simplicity Studio instead of removing all instances?
Simplicity Studio is a provided as complete product that includes everything needed to function within the installation. There is no need to remove/delete previous installations when installing/updating to a new release. It is recommended that if you intend on maintaining multiple installations, they need to be in separate directories/folder, so that the product configuration does not get corrupted. Some care may be needed with regards to the active workspace to ensure that preferences are not modified/updated in the event that you prefer to maintain an older version. SS2.0 and SS3.0 will create a default workspace in the “\Users\SimplicityStudio\” directory under the product version, such as “v3_Workspace”, if you maintain multiple versions they need to use separate versions of the workspace
