Hi,
what about the two mics, U7 and U11, of the EFR32BG22 board?
I don't find anything for the use of it.

Thanks in advance

Giovanni

  • Giovanni,

I'm no expert here however have found some examples which might work (they mention the BG22 board and microphones). I've not tried it however might work.. See link below.

    https://github.com/SiliconLabs/peripheral_examples/tree/master/series2/pdm

    https://www.silabs.com/documents/login/presentations/tech-talk-thunderboard-bg22-unboxing.pdf

Worryingly it is also quoted :

"Note: On SLTB010A BRD4184A Rev A01, the PDM signals are suboptimally routed next to the High Frequency crystal which causes HFXO and RF performance issues."

Hope this helps... let us know if it works.

    Neal.

  • You can use the microphones, but if they are used at the same time as Bluetooth it will cause poor quality on the Bluetooth connection. This is documented in the board errata, table 8.2 of UG415: Thunderboard™ EFR32BG22 User's Guide.

  • Hi Tmonte,

    thanks for your reply.

Based on your answer it is therefore impossible to test the function voice over BLE. Quite right ?

Do you know any othe possibilities ?

    Thanks again

Yes, the Bluetooth RF performance is really poor when the PDM signal is active.

Thunderboard Sense 2 can be used to test the voice-over-ble example, it works well there.

  • You asked if there were other possibilities to test voice over ble function, and I said that on Thunderboard Sense 2 there are also microphones and it has a ready-made sample app in the Bluetooth SDK called voice-over-ble which allows you to test this.

  • Is there a prebuilt Android App to test this available?

  • If you are asking about voice-over-ble example then the answer is no. You need a second kit to run in NCP mode, more info here: https://docs.silabs.com/bluetooth/latest/code-examples/applications/voice-over-ble

  • Would it be possible to use it as a microphone for an Android device?

  • Yes, should be possible, if you can capture the data on the Android device. We don't provide support for mobile app development though, so if you need help I recommend you go to Android specific forums.

  • I just bought the Thunderboard Kit, is it possible that this is replaced from SiLabs with the updated one due to the fact of it microphone bug?

  • The microphone is not listed as a board feature so it's not eligible for replacement when a new revision is made available. We don't have yet a date when the new board will be available so I recommend that you buy Thunderboard Sense 2 if you really want to test the voice over ble functionality.
