I am working on a design which I hope will support Bluetooth 5 earphones like these:
Does Silicon Labs have any reference designs for audio output over Bluetooth 5? Do any of the modules or SoCs support audio over Bluetooth 5?
Thanks for your help!
No, we don't have any solution for Bluetooth audio, only the Bluetooth Classic modules but they don't support Bluetooth 5.
Thanks, Tiago. Is this something that could be addressed with a future firmware update? That is, if I built my design around a Silicon Labs module or SoC, would it be possible to add Bluetooth 5 audio in the future?
I do not need any specific hardware, at least as far as I know: (I will use external audio DAC and I2S microphone, which I already know how to interface to Silabs MCU USART, and, since I specifically need half-duplex (no simultaneously working microphone/speaker), I will not need to run ?? any echo-cancelation algorithms). Are there any other limitations exist, which I don’t know about
Does Silabs have any Bluetooth 5 audio software example to share?
Then you are not talking about Bluetooth audio, you are talking about sending audio data over BLE which is a totally different thing. It doesn't work with any headphones, they all use Bluetooth Classic.
We have an example of transferring audio data (voice) over BLE, you can find it in the SDK and it works with Thunderboard Sense (1 and 2). Please refer to this KBA for more information:
