We started some development like two month ago using the Zentri OS on AMW037.
For how long the Zentri OS part will be available?
Is it possible to update to Gecko OS outside of DMS(which we don't use), during production?
Gecko OS 2.0/3.0 is the successor of ZentriOS. If you are still in development phase, we strongly suggest that you base your work on Gecko OS rather than ZentriOS. The future features and bug fixes will mainly target Gecko OS, and then merged back to ZentriOS (if needed and justified).
Saying so, as we still in early development of Gecko OS, please wait for Gecko OS v2.1 which will have many improvements over the current one v2.0. At the meantime, you can start using ZentriOS v1.5 to get your self familiar and start building your host side, then once Gecko OS 2.1 is ready you can activate and move to it very easily. The major commands and variables will be shared between both products.
For the production, once you are happy with a product you've released to DMS (or even one of our base products), you can order the quantity you want and we will make sure the modules are shipped pre-loaded with your firmware (given that you order MOQ)
Thanks Ayman, I'm looking to start a development project with the AMW037 module and am looking at eval boards..
For evaluation through USB is it recommended that I start with the AMW007-E04 board or can I used the AMW037-E01?
I'm guessing E04 is newer and likely already has Gecko OS already on it? When is Gecko OS V2.1 out? Is it true that
E01 has Zentrios on it? Is it a big deal to update to Gecko? Just wondering where I should start.. thanks!
You can use any AMW007/AMW037 boards with both Gecko OS and ZentriOS.
Correct, AMW007-E04 is sold pre-loaded with Gecko OS, and AMW037-E01 is pre-loaded with ZentriOS. You can move/update from ZentriOS to Gecko OS in a couple of steps - from command line use the following commands:
> dms activate SILABS-AMW007
After updates completes successfully, I do encourage you to factory reset the module for a clean start with Gecko OS:
> get wlan.mac
> factory_reset <MAC_ADDRESS_FROM_ABOVE>
Hope that helps.
Thanks Ayman! I think I'm getting close (kind of a noob here). Got the terminal connected. Got connected to my local WiFi.
Issued an OTA command to update from Zentri lite OS from V1.0 (or was it 1.1?) to ZentriOS-WL-220.127.116.11
But when I try "dms activate SILABS-AMW007" I get an error:
is that referring to "SILABS-AMW007"?
Sorry did not notice you are using AMW037. In this case, you will need to activate to the correct product:
> dms activate SILABS-AMW037
