Isolated RS485 and RS232 Evaluation Kit

The Isolated RS232/RS485 Evaluation Kit is a demonstration and evaluation platform for creating Isolated RS232 and RS485 solutions. It can be used in conjunction with EFM32 and EFM8 MCU Stater Kits (STKs). It simplifies the process of creating an isolated RS solution by offering an already built and functioning platform. The board schematics are available and there are examples that can be run on the MCU STKs to communicate via isolated RS232 or RS485. The board contains two isolators, an RS232/485 transceiver, a 20-pin breakout header for easy connection, many headers for debugging and evaluation, male DB9 port, and screw terminals for RS485.

 

ISOLATED-RS Board and Kit Contents:

  • RS232/RS485 transceiver
  • 20-pin header for connection to MCU Starter Kits
  • Null modem DB9 cable

Enablement:

All Silicon Labs MCU or WLMCU Starter Kits can connect to the Isolated-RS board. There is example code on the SLSTK2000A (EFM8 Universal Bee) and the EFM32WG-STK3800. One of these boards is needed for full evaluation and demonstration.

Step 1: Order an MCU Starter Kit

The isolation expansion boards are made to be connected to a microcontroller kit. The isolated signals are read by the MCU. This allows for the creation of a fully functional isolation node that can transmit and receive USB or RS232/RS485.

Step 3: Run Demos

Demos are a quick and easy way to evaluate a device and offer a development starting point.

Follow these simple steps:

1. Plug the MCU Starter Kit to a host that has Simplicity Studio, ensure the switch is set to AEM

2. Attach the isolation expansion board to the 20 pin header

3. Open Simpicity Studio

4. Select Demos
