With decades of high-voltage design expertise and a proven track record of supplying hundreds of millions of high voltage products, Silicon Labs is enabling customers to integrate PoE into a wide array of products at the lowest overall cost and lowest design effort with the Si3406 Powered Device (PD).Taking its cue from the world’s most highly integrated PD the Si3402, the Si34061 now also adds PoE+ (30W) IEEE 802.3at power capability, includes power transistor bypass modes for optimal thermal management at the highest power levels, and continues the tradition of a high degree of BOM integration in a full-solution PoE Powered Device IC. The Si34061 makes it simple and cost-effective for customers to add PoE capability to any Ethernet powered device application. By removing cost and design challenges, Silicon Labs is enabling widespread proliferation of PoE into the massive worldwide Ethernet infrastructure.PD Evaluation Kits are available as either non-isolated or isolated topologies. Generally, isolated topologies are chosen when there are non-Ethernet jacks also included in the power device equipment, such as AC/DC adapters, USB ports, RS-232 ports, etc. Isolated topologies provide the PoE subsystem protection from undesirable earth ground connections and provide users of the equipment a basic level of safety from electrical shock. The Si34061ISOC4-KIT contains an evaluation board with RJ-45 jacks to allow direct connection into a PoE-enabled system, as well as power supply connectors to enable monitoring of the Si34061’s regulated dc output. The board features a transformer-based isolation barrier with an isolated feedback loop, external power FETs for optimal power and thermal management, and is configured for Class 4  power.  The board can be re-configured for other power classes with simple BOM changes as described in the User’s Guide.
