No comm port created after successful cp210x driver install
04/102/2018 | 11:17 PM
I have been trying to install the cp210x drive on my HP EliteBook 8570p laptop running windows 7, to run with my fscan which is supposed to function with the cp210x software. I have installed the drive multiple times but yet there is not comm port made, like shown in the install resources on the website. The only indicator of a driver installation is an unknown device under the devices tab with the id numbers:
I am stumped at this point, I have done everything that I could find on this forum to get this driver installed yet nothing works, if anyone has experienced this problem and would like to give me some guidance in fixing this problem it would be greatly appreaiated.
Thank You.

I think this is an end product that use CP210x (or chip from other vendor). they change the VID/PID and it suppose the original driver from Silabs could support this product.

Delu,
That is what I thought as well but it seems to be a driver issue since we sent the product back to the manufacture to test for any issues with the product and they said that it worked on their computer. I have also attempted to install this driver on diffrent windows PC's and I have gotten the same issues, that there is not comm port created. Is the driver the only thing that I have to install or are there other steps that I must take to properly install the driver and set the comm port.

You need check the vendor of this product to get the driver first. Then install it to see if the COM port could showed up in the device manager.
You could double check if the VID/PID with some tools like UVCView or USBLyser.

The VID/PID provided above (VID_8086&PID_1E31) is not supported by the stock Windows VCP driver on silabs website.
If the provided VID/PID is correct for your CP210x device, then a custom VCP driver is required.
Here is a KB article on Troubleshooting a Product Using a CP210x USB-to-UART Bridge for your reference.
It also provides the default VID/PID on CP210x devices.
You must extract the zip archive into a temporary directory. Open the temporary directory and run the appropriate executable. During the installation, Windows will ask you if you want to install the drivers prepaidgiftbalance.

you are missing a driver probably and that's why it is happening in your system. try to uninstall the driver and reinstall it and see it works or not. and you can also check with the restart of the system. John Mcqeen

Yes. I too have the feeling like John. You can give it a try to reinstall again to check if it works for you. Also try this after restarting your system. Hope this helps. Filmy Edward

You should try the app trouble shooter and then clean your computer with anti malware.

Now try this with shower and it will work.
