The reason for single layer is one they are cheap! And two I can get them thin enough to go through my laminator, I use a toner transfer hybrid system for making boards, but that will change once I have perfected my direct print, printer! Then hopefully one day I can print direct onto PCB. |

I am so guilty of doing that! Sometimes I think I try to hard to make it look good, and my OCD drives me to focus on thngs being neat and tidy, but my boards suffer because I am not focusing on the important bits, I have just found out how to use the copper fill feature on ALTIUM, so ground planes shouldnt be a problem now. The one good thing about making the boards myself is cost, I dont worry about cramming as much as I can in to save some £. I only pay to have a boar done if it turns out to be a really good board I want to use over and over. I remember the wire is an inductor from our chip discussion, so I do pay more attention now to detail. The other sin I used to commit alot was running traces between pins. I have a few boards lined up I need to make, so at least I have some more practice coming up. I use strip board for some prototype stuff, but I find making pcb's is relaxing

Sorry I forgot the links Nice layout of the board by the way, I still struggle laying boards out, I try and do single layer because I make them at home, but I guess it takes practice! How long did the laying out take you?

That is a great project! I really like the amount of effort you have put into documenting it! Would you mind if I made a couple of suggestion's? While I can think of a couple of projects I could use this for, and indeed it is tempting to add it to my copter project, it might be an idea to give some examples for its use, also it might help if you added pics of it being used for different things, people tend to spend more time reading when there are pictures. NONE of this is meant as criticism you have done a great job with documentation and I am going to try and document my projects as professionally as you have done. Also a suggestion of stuff to add if you decide for another version, You have temperature already, but Silicon Labs do some awesome temperature and humidity sensor's, my dad's work place do alot of commercial incubator stuff, they use them all the time now, I was just thinking that the sensors are tiny so dont need much room, and might be handy for some projects, also how about the super smart ambient and IR sensor from sil labs? Again its small.
I am not saying your project needs anything else, but if you wanted some ideas.........
Either way I am gong to have a go at building this, I like the data logging and usb connection alot, way better than the normal RS232 cop out |

Did you notice this in the comments?

BleepDrum from Bleep Labs is priced similarly and there is a way of unloading samples into it through Arduino Like or Dislike: I am so tempted to post a comment! I think the guy made the point without realizing it! THE SAME PRICE, and yet look at the difference, then add's further stupidity by adding that you can up load with a (The word I dont use)!

Personally I would have disqualified it! Great effort and everything but isnt based around a kit, so on the grounds of unfair advantage disqualified, otherwise all you have to do is go buy some super duper synth and hot glue a gecko to the top!! Great link though, alot of work has gone into that
Really great advert for the Gecko as well, shame the main Silicon Labs web site dosnt have a

There is a 4461-868-PDK dev kit here, is that the kind of thing you are talking about?
And thanks by the way
I did manage to brick the DK3750 GG board today But was a hairy couple of hours working out how to explain to my dad, was his pride and joy was now a paper weight I love forums for that kind of stuff! Also all the tech guy's on here seem to really know there stuff! I have been reading the forums alot, stack and stacks of info! We have a very old Land rover, and my current project (one of them) is to tap into the CAN and see what I can find
LG
By the way I hope to have my own BLOG soon, focusing on my projects with your boards and chips! I always thought I would stay with pics, but i love these kits, bit of a steep learning curve getting used to new IDE's etc and datasheets, but the dev kits and chips are excellent! I especially like the tool sticks with the plug in daughter cards! great idea and a cheap way to start, I am going to show my tech teacher. Would be great if my School got some of them. |

Hi I am LG I am 13 and into electronics, I have been a member of various forum for around 2 years. I dont know a great deal and most o my past experience has been with pic micro's, my dad now uses alot of silicon labs stuff at work,so I have decided to switch over and learn 8051 and the efm32. Mostly I 'Borrow' the dev kits from dad's work Although dad is an engineer I prefer to learn and ask questions myself, I have a pretty good set up at home so I am looking forward to learning SL kits! I am particularly into radio and I am sitting my intermediate exam soon for amateur radio. Sorry in advance for the hundreds of questions I will ask lol
