I've been using Simplicity Studio v2 (SSv2) for a while, and I finally decided to upgrade to v3 (SSv3). I installed the new version (since I couldn't just download the updates into SSv2) but now when I open SSv3, it immediately brings up the IDE and I don't see the main/home Simplicity Studio screen anymore. What is wrong with my installation?
Simplicity Studio contains a set of user preferences that allow you to control the behavior when opening any of the built-in tools (Energy Profiler, Simplicity IDE, Configurator, etc.) as well as the behavior of the application window(s) when opening Simplicity Studio. These settings are accessed using the Window > Preferences menu option.
For details on how to configure these settings, see the Knowledge Base article Single-Window Simplicity IDE.
When we released SSv3 in early 2015, we changed the default settings for these preferences from what were previously implemented (in SSv2) in order to make Simplicity Studio behave more like a typical Eclipse-based application. If you're used to seeing the Launcher (i.e. home / main menu / tiles screen) when you open Simplicity Studio, and new windows created for any built-in tool you open, the default settings (one window, restores last screen from previous session) will seem unfamiliar.
If you decide you prefer the "old" (SSv2) behavior, feel free to edit the settings as described in the KB article linked above.
