Environmental Sustainability

Our 2023 Corporate Sustainability Report outlines our goals, action plans, and progress to reduce our environmental impact and institute sustainable practices throughout our operations.

Advancing Responsible & Sustainable Operations

Responsible and sus¬tainable practices are threaded throughout our everyday business opera¬tions, product design, and technology investments, in both our own internal operations and our relationships with suppliers and customers. Guided by our Global Environmental Policy, we’re committed to designing environmentally friendly products, improving our environmental performance and pollution prevention, and minimizing our negative environmental impact of business activities.

Energy & Emissions

We have taken significant steps to better understand our overall carbon footprint and continue to increase our use of renewable energy as we transition to 100% grid-source renewable energy in our facilities where available. The majority of our emissions come from upstream purchased goods and services within our manufacturing supply chain.

We are committed to working closely with our major suppliers on their climate-related goals and results to better understand their climate-related impacts, and how these impact our goals to reduce emissions. Details on our energy and consumption data is available in the Corporate Sustainability Report. Limited independent assurance of our 2023 consumption and emissions data has been provided by Apex Companies.

Water Usage

Silicon Labs is a fabless semiconductor company primarily consuming water for general hygiene and hydration within our facilities. We have implemented proactive programs to reduce our water usage including integrated low-flow bathroom facilities and reduced landscaping water usage in our common areas. We also actively monitor water reports and alerts on water risks and scarcity. You can view our most recent water usage data and water risks analysis in the Corporate Sustainability Report.

Waste Management

We strive to systematically reduce and divert waste ending up in landfill by providing greater availability of recycling options and improved training for all employees and contractors. As a fabless company, less than 1% of our total waste is considered hazardous and is disposed of by a qualified vendor. All e-waste is disposed of in accordance with the Waste and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive. Additional details on our waste management programs and total waste and diversion rate across our global facilities are available in the Corporate Sustainability Report.

Cleantech Product Design

We constantly innovate to improve our products and services for energy efficiency and productivity. Silicon Labs is focused on reducing die size to improve production yields, further reducing the energy consumption footprint, and optimizing manufacturing processes for source reductions. Our Series 2 products have been designed to meet the growing needs for low-power IoT devices, allowing devices to stay in the field for up to ten years on a single coin-cell battery. You can read more about our efforts to improve product energy efficiency in the Corporate Sustainability Report.

Product Quality & Safety

Our quality and environmental teams are responsible for assuring the compliance of our products to environmental requirements and have direct contact with our suppliers. Product compliance and use of hazardous substances are continually addressed with Silicon Labs quality and environmental management systems extended to our suppliers through Silicon Labs Hazardous Substances Specification and ROHS/REACH requirements. Silicon Labs also has requirements for non-use of other substances such as Antimony, PFOA, PFOS, Chlorine, Bromine, and other Phthalates.

Individual certificates of compliance are available by specific part number in the corporate, product, and environmental data search tool. User instructions are available here.

Certifications

We qualify our standard integrated circuit (IC) products following JEDEC JESD47, Stress Test-Driven Qualification of Integrated Circuits and our Automotive ICs following AEC-Q100.

Silicon Labs ISO 9001:2015 Certificate

We have been registered to ISO 9001 Quality Management System since June 2000. Silicon Labs is ISO 9001:2015 certified with TUV Rheinland of North America.

Silicon Labs ISO 14001:2015 Certificate

We have been registered to ISO 14001 Environmental Management System since December 2006. Silicon Labs is ISO 14001:2015 certified with TUV Rheinland of North America.

Silicon Labs IATF 16949:2016 Conformance

We maintained certification to ISO/TS 16949 from January 2008 to October 2014. Due to a 2013 change in the certification eligibility requirements, fabless semiconductor companies are no longer eligible for certification; however we continue to conform to IATF 16949:2016.
