Simplicity AI SDK Brings AI-Assisted Development to Developers
The newly released public beta connects developers’ preferred AI assistants with Silicon Labs SDKs, tools, and hardware to streamline embedded development
AI coding assistants can help developers move quickly, but embedded development requires more than general software knowledge. Device capabilities, wireless protocols, SDK versions, memory, power, development tools, and hardware all affect whether an application works as intended. Without that context, developers still must search for information and move manually between configuration, build, flash, debug, and analysis tools.
As part of Works With 2026, Silicon Labs today announced the public beta of the Simplicity AI SDK, an AI integration layer for embedded development that connects AI coding assistants with Silicon Labs SDKs, documentation, development tools, projects, and connected hardware. Simplicity AI SDK helps developers move from intent to action across the development cycle from within the AI development environments they already use.
The initial public beta is validated and supported for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE), but developers can use the Simplicity AI SDK across Silicon Labs wireless technologies for IoT development.
About Simplicity AI SDK
The Simplicity AI SDK connects the AI agents developers and large language models (LLMs) that developers are already using to Silicon Labs-specific knowledge and development capabilities. It combines Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent Skills, command-line tools, and workflows that help AI agents understand how to work with Silicon Labs SDKs, tools, projects, and hardware.
Using natural-language prompts, developers can create and configure projects, modify code, build and flash firmware, debug applications, analyze behavior, and validate results on hardware. The agent can select the appropriate Silicon Labs tools, evaluate the results, and continue iterating toward the requested outcome.
The public beta is validated with Visual Studio Code using GitHub Copilot or OpenAI Codex, but the Simplicity AI SDK is designed to be agent- and LLM-agnostic. Its standards-based MCP integrations and agent skills can work with other compatible AI environments, allowing developers to use their preferred agent and LLM as the ecosystem evolves. Silicon Labs provides the context, tools, and workflows that help those agents work effectively with Silicon Labs hardware and software.
What Developers Can Do With Simplicity AI SDK
Move From an Idea to a Working Project
Context-aware search helps developers find relevant information and examples from official Silicon Labs content. From there, the Simplicity AI SDK can help create projects, select and configure software components, validate configurations, upgrade projects, and automate builds.
Developers can also bring existing projects into the workflow. The SDK can assist with moving development-kit projects to custom hardware and custom-board bring-up, applying project and hardware context that generic code suggestions may miss.
Build, Flash, and Debug on Hardware
The Simplicity AI SDK goes beyond chat and code generation by connecting AI agents to Silicon Labs development tools and hardware. Developers can discover and program devices, monitor serial output, inspect application behavior at runtime, and debug firmware through GDB-based workflows.
That connection is especially important in embedded development, where source code is only one part of the system. The agent can use information from the project, development tools, and running hardware to help investigate problems and iterate on a solution.
Analyze and Optimize Application Behavior
Developers can use Silicon Labs development and analysis tools through their AI workflow to investigate application behavior, network activity, power consumption, and other aspects of their system. Instead of repeatedly moving context between an AI assistant and individual development tools, the agent can help orchestrate the workflow and use the results to inform the next step.
Why Silicon Labs is Releasing a Public Beta
Embedded workflows vary across products, teams, hardware, wireless technologies, and development environments. The public beta gives developers a chance to try the Simplicity AI SDK on projects and tell us where AI assistance provides the most value and where the experience needs to improve.
That feedback will help Silicon Labs refine how AI agents interact with SDKs, tools, projects, and hardware and prioritize future capabilities.
How to review the documentation and install.
- Review the documentation and install. Start with the Simplicity AI SDK documentation for installation instructions, then download and run the Simplicity Installer to set up Simplicity AI SDK for your environment.
- Choose a workflow. Bring a project and Silicon Labs hardware, or start from an example, and choose a task you want to accomplish.
- Put the agent to work. Try creating and configuring a project, building and flashing firmware, debugging on connected hardware, or analyzing application behavior.
- Tell us how it went. Share what worked, what did not, and what you want to see next in the Silicon Labs Community.
Help Shape AI-Assisted Embedded Development
The Simplicity AI SDK is designed to reduce the time developers spend searching for information, switching between tools, and manually carrying context from one step to the next. By connecting AI agents to official Silicon Labs SDKs, tools, documentation, projects, and hardware, developers can spend more time building, testing, and improving their applications.
Try the public beta with your IoT development workflow and let us know what you build.
