How can you do failure analysis if the chip has to be wiped?
If left unlocked, the debug port constitutes a significant security vulnerability. Thus, the security best practice is to lock or disable debug access before a product is released to production. Silicon Labs microcontroller devices include a debug lock mechanism. Additionally, our microcontrollers also offer a secure debug unlock feature to make it easier to conduct failure analysis (FA) activities. Access to the debug port can be enabled through the presentation of a unique unlock token. This token is generated by signing a revocable unique identifier with a customer generated private key. The key benefit of Silicon Labs secure debug unlock is that device data doesn’t have to be erased, leading to reduced troubleshooting time and enhanced root cause FA.
Have you Discovered a Vulnerability?
