The SLWSTK6102A is a powerful starter kit with all the hardware and support tools needed to begin prototyping wireless applications with MGM210P and BGM210P (xGM210P) modules.

Together with the Gecko SDK suite and Simplicity Studio, the SLWSTK6102A delivers a complete development platform with robust software stacks, advanced debugging and optimization tools, sample application code, pre-compiled demos, documentation and various other resources to help you create xGM210P-based Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, or multi-protocol connectivity and networking solutions.

Step 1: Download and Install Simplicity Studio

Get up and running quickly with precompiled demos, application notes, and examples. Use advanced tools including energy profiling to optimize your MCU application. Choose your software package below.

Step 2: Set up Your Development Environment

Plug in one of the radio boards to a WSTK main board, connect the main board to your PC or laptop via USB, and open Simplicity Studio. Make sure the main board’s power switch is set to AEM.

Simplicity Studio’s Launcher window will list both the WSTK main board and the module radio board in the Debug Adapters window. Double clicking on the radio board will update the tiles in the Launcher window with information and resources relevant to xGM210P modules (e.g. software examples, documentation, etc.)

Step 3: Explore Resources

Get familiarized with some of the development resources available through Simplicity Studio. Navigate through Software Examples, one of the Quick Start Guides (e.g. QSG139), or simply open up one of the pre-compiled Demos and load it to the radio board as detailed in Step 5.

Step 4: Load a Demo

Program the radio board with a pre-compiled demo and verify that your kit and setup work properly.

1. Open Simplicity Studio

2. Under Debug Adapters in the Launcher window, select your xGM210P radio board 

3. Click on the Bluetooth (NCP) link under Demos and then on NCP target – Empty. A pop-up window will open.

4. Select the desired demo, set Mode to Run and click on Start to load it to the module. This will set the module to NCP (network co-processor) mode so that you can to control it from an external host.

5. Go to the Compatible Tools tab in the Launcher window and open BG Tool to use it as the controller for the module.

6. Select the COM port assigned to your starter kit on the BG Tool GUI and click on Open. The BG Tool will gain control of its NCP target, in this case the xGM210P module. The GUI’s Log window will show the commands and responses exchanged between host and target once the host can successfully communicate with the target.

7. Use BG Tool to send commands to the module and put it to advertise or to discover nearby Bluetooth devices advertising.

8. If you have a smart phone at hand, download and install the Silicon Labs Blue Gecko WSTK app and use it to detect the xGM210P’s advertisements and establish a connection with the module.
