ESL-201: How to Drive an ePaper Module with a Wireless MCU

This material is 2 of 2 in the Works With 2021: Electronic Shelf Label Systems.

Pick up the ‘Must Know’ facts about ESL as the future of physical retail gets smart.

Overview

Electronic Paper Display (EPD) is commonly used in e-readers, industrial signage, and electronic shelf labels. Their properties are ideal for applications which do not update the image frequently. Because the displays draw no current when showing a static image, they allow a very long battery lifetime. However, the current consumption of the MCU and the rest of the application is critical to maximizing battery life. The EFR32 flexible energy modes allow the MCU to always draw as little current as possible.
