Blending Technology and Business in Today's Multifamily Residential Market

Service providers with residential offerings, including cable companies, telecom companies, and MSOs, will play an important role in the innovation and adoption of new IoT and smart building technologies. This is going to be increasingly important as demand for multi-dwelling housing units, or MDUs, continues its unprecedented growth. To put this need into perspective, the US alone needs to build 300,000 units every year for the next thirty years. On average, over the previous 30 years, we’ve haven’t built more than 250,000 a year. Property developers, owners, and managers will shoulder this burden with ISPs, and in this paper we’ll take a closer look at the products, service models, and the relationships that will contribute to unravelling this challenge and unlocking the market opportunity it represents.
